Letter: Homola for state Senate
Aug 19, 2016
Angie Homola is the person we need to represent us in the state Senate.
If you live in or near La Conner, Big Lake, Conway, Lake Cavanaugh or south Mount Vernon, you will see Angie on your fall ballot. You should choose her.
Angie took office as an Island County commissioner in 2009, just as the great recession was crashing government budgets. The experience gained in making tough choices to cut spending would help Angie in the important issues facing our state. Tough choices about spending face our state representatives — we need to fund our public schools, but we can’t stop spending money on other important things like roads or medical care for needy elderly persons and children living in poverty.
Barbara Bailey has been in this office for four years. During that time, our Legislature and especially our state Senate have been almost completely frozen. Instead of making the tough choices, there has been incessant fighting. Instead of rolling up its sleeves and working across the aisle to get things done, Barbara has been part of a Senate that keeps running overtime for weeks and weeks. What a waste of our tax dollars. Barbara is not just a part of that disaster, she is a leader.
Before Bailey, we had Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen. Haugen was a common sense politician who was known in Olympia as the person who would always work across the aisles, always get results and at the same time, never forget to represent the people living in the place she called home.
Angie Homola can bring back that common sense management. She can also bring in a fresh set of eyes to replace the failures of the last four years. Vote for Angie Homola in November.
